The Congregation of the Daughters of St. Camillus is an international missionary religious congregation founded in Rome, Italy by Blessed Father Luigi Tezza, M.I. and Blessed Mother Josephine Vannini on February 2, 1892. The congregation is present in over 19 countries all over the world, serving in various apostolate works for the sick, the poor and the suffering – such as the elderly in homes for the aged, the sick and suffering in hospitals, handicapped children, terminally ill patients, and evangelical work in the missions. The sisters run hospitals, homes for the aged, centers for the handicapped and terminally ill, and nursing schools. The congregation prepares the sisters for their delicate work with adequate health care education and training. Here in the Philippines, they founded their first community in Talamban, Cebu on April 1997 under the approval of His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal. A growing novitiate community was later followed by the establishment of a home for the aged in 2000. This was in answer to a need seen by the congregation for institutions dedicated to the loving care of the elderly. It also provided candidates for formation the opportunity to serve the sick and suffering.
The Blessed Josephine Vannini Home for the Aged is run by the Daughters of St. Camillus. The center is named after their Foundress Blessed Mother Josephine Vannini. It was opened in May 2000 at Sitio Tigbao, San Jose Road, Talamban, Cebu City. It is fully equipped and clean, with safe and spacious facilities and rooms to provide decent living for the sick and elderly. The sisters work together with caregivers, staff, students and volunteers to care for the elderly residents of the home. The center takes all the responsibility over the elderly entrusted to our care but with close coordination with their families.
The Home for the Aged was constructed with the help of foreign and local donations. The residential home was initially opened to abandoned and neglected elderly women from very poor families, aged 60 years and above.
The Blessed Mother Josephine Vannini Home for the Aged Daughters of St. Camillus, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit charitable corporation, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission since May 29, 2001. The primary purpose of the corporation is to establish a Home for the Aged.
The Congregation of the Daughters of St. Camillus seeks to witness to the ever present love of Christ towards the sick and suffering. The congregation arrived here in the Philippines on April 1997 with the firm purpose of serving the needs of the sick and suffering. At the time, there were very few institutions providing care to the sick, neglected and abandoned elderly. Seeing the opportunity to address this need for compassionate and competent care for the sick aged, as well as to provide candidates for formation a venue to serve in apostolic work, the Blessed Mother Josephine Vannini Home for the Aged was opened in May 2000.
